The single biggest factor in whether a printable card looks homemade or boutique-quality is the paper and printer settings you use.

Paper weight is measured in pounds (lb) in the US or grams per square meter (gsm) elsewhere. For greeting cards, aim for 65–110 lb cardstock.

Printer Settings for the Best Results
- Quality: set to “Best” or “High Quality.” This produces richer, more accurate color. The print takes slightly longer, but the difference is visible.
- Paper type: set to “Cardstock,” “Heavy Paper,” or “Thick Paper.” This adjusts ink saturation and drying time for heavier stock.
- Scale: set to 100% or “Actual Size.” Never use “Fit to Page” — this resizes the artwork and changes card dimensions. Our files are sized to standard 5×7 inches and A4.
- Color profile: use sRGB if available. The standard color space for home printing gives the most predictable result.
How to Fold Printable Cards Cleanly
- Score the fold line before folding. Use a bone folder and a ruler along the fold line. This compresses the paper fibers and creates a clean, straight fold.
- Fold away from the print if possible. This reduces the risk of the surface cracking or ink showing stress lines.
- Press firmly and evenly. Run the bone folder along the outside fold again after folding to set it flat.
